'We’re the biggest club in the league, that’s what I think': Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann's message - while retaining League Two focus

DONCASTER ROVERS have started the campaign in pretty impressive fashion and are without a home defeat in 10 league matches since the end of January - winning all of them.

Without the presence of the likes of Wrexham and Stockport County in League Two this season, Rovers - alongside a select group of others including Bradford City and Notts County, most notably - represent the biggest scalp to many.

Manager Grant McCann goes a bit further, while retaining focus on what really matters to him.

McCann, whose side host an unbeaten Gillingham side this weekend, said: “We’re the biggest club in the league, that’s what I think.

"But all we are focused on is the next game, we are not thinking about scalps and ‘that will be a good result for them, if they beat us.’

"We certainly don’t think like that. We think: ‘how can we get the result against the next team that is coming to our home.’ Obviously, Saturday is against Gillingham.

"I feel as if this club and its stature shouldn’t be at this level. I have said it before.

"But it’s my job and the players - and everyone connected with the football club - to be working together and in tandem to try and move us through these leagues.”

McCann has confirmed that right-back Tom Nixon will be out for ‘three to four weeks’ with ankle ligament damage.

Nixon suffered the injury in the recent EFL Cup loss at Everton.

Left-back James Maxwell, out since breaking a metatarsal on the opening day of the season, could start work back out on training pitch in the next week to 10 days, the Rovers chief added.
