Wrexham 1 York City 1: Till grabs City equaliser

IT is often said that luck evens itself out in football but it did not at the Racecourse Ground where York were unfortunate not to win.

They recovered well from a shaky start to dominate much of the rest of the game only to find that luck was against them.

York striker Michael Gash, in the England C team to play Wales at Newtown on Wednesday, saw his clever 39th-minute chip rebound off the far post after beating Scott Shearer.

They were then denied what seemed a clear penalty after Michael Rankine was pushed by Frank Sinclair and finally Neil Barrett hooked the ball past Shearer only for Jay Harris to head off the line.

A further moment of bad luck saw York drop behind after eight minutes when Danny Parslow slipped as he went to intercept Kevin Gall's cross and Andy Morrell was left with an open goal.

Peter Till, whose runs down the right caused Wrexham problems, beat Johnny Hunt before cutting in to equalise with a fine 19th-minute cross-shot and both sides then had chances to win an entertaining game which ended with a section of York supporters booing their team.

York manager Martin Foyle said: "We had enough chances, but didn't take them in a game we dominated for long periods."
