York City transfer news: Minstermen land Yorkshire favourite with over 500 appearances
York City have signed highly experienced former Huddersfield Town, Barnsley, Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday player Jack Hunt for 2026-27.
As well as his time in Yorkshire, Leeds-born Hunt also played for Nottingham Forest, Chesterfield, Bristol City, Stockport County and Wigan Athletic, bringing considerable pedigree to the Minstermen as they prepare for their return to the Football League after a decade away.
Now 35, Hunt can operate anywhere across the defence, or in midfield but his preferred position is at right-back.
Hunt scored the winning penalty when Sheffield Wednesday completed the "miracle of Hillsborough" in 2023.

Four-nil down from the away leg at Peterborough United, the Owls won the return 5-1, before qualifying for the final by winning 5-3 on spot kicks. At Wembley they beat Barnsley to secure their place in the Championship.
That game was the last act of Hunt's second spell as an Owl, having also played for them between 2015 and 2018, initially on loan.
Born in Rothwell, Hunt came through Huddersfield's academy into senior football, making his first start in an FA Cup defeat at Arsenal. He also won the League One play-offs with the Terriers, in 2012, when he was named in the PFA's team of the year for the division.
A 2013 move to Crystal Palace promised much, but he suffered a serious ankle injury soon after and never played for the Eagles.
His first spell at Hillsborough saw the club reach the Championship play-off final, only to lose it to Hull City in 2016.
In all, Hunt has made over 500 senior appearances, bringing a wealth of knowledge at Stuart Maynard's squad steps up to a new level.
