York City v Accrington Stanley: Scott Lindsey expects team to grow from 'learning' experience

York City's return to the Football League has put them in the early running for a second consecutive promotion, yet coach Scott Lindsey expects them to get better in the next batch of ten games.

That is how many matches the Minstermen have ticked off so far, and they have 16 points – five fewer than Crewe Alexandra in the final automatic promotion spot, but the nearest chaser.

All being well they have ten more games until Christmas.

"I think we'll get stronger," said Lindsey, who only came into the job during pre-season.

"I think the first ten games has been us learning about the division. The next batch of ten games we're hopeful we come away with more than 16 points."

They have a good opportunity to start the next block well with home games against Accrington Stanley tonight and Port Vale on Saturday.

A draw against Northampton Town in their previous Community Stadium match was the only time they have dropped points there this season. Lindsey expects Accrington to test that despite no away wins since February.

"We're good at home," said Lindsey. "The crowd are good.

"This will be a tough game. Accrington have had a good season. They're aggressive on the press, they run and handle the ball well.”

York have appealed Jovan Malcolm's red card at Newport County, but the timescale is unclear.

They are hoping, though, to add to the squad from Rodney Parade.

"We're getting really close to one or two back. There could be one in the squad on Tuesday," said Lindsey, who when pressed said it would not be Josh Stones.
