York City v Brackley Town: Gary Mills has one eye on league rivals despite FA Trophy distraction
Mills is keen to progress but admits the priority has to be maintaining York’s National League status.
He said: “It is and it isn’t (a help to have a break from the league) because we are into late February and what we are hoping come 5pm is that there are some results that have gone for us.
“We don’t want to be more than six points off safety. It is good in a way that we have a chance to go to Wembley but there is no doubt that we are also reliant on a couple of results to go for us.”
Brackley have proved to be away-day specialists this season despite only being in mid-table. Just two league defeats on the road at Bradford Park Avenue and Tamworth together with Brackley progressing in the Trophy despite being drawn away at every stage is proof of that.
The part-time Saints also knocked out League One Gillingham in the FA Cup.
“People say it is the best draw you can have but as soon as you get that thinking then you get a little bit complacent,” added Mills, whose side travel to leaders Lincoln City on Tuesday.
“If it is Brackley or Lincoln, we approach it in the same way.”
