Burton Albion 2 York City 0: Worthington unhappy with tame surrender

YORK City manager Nigel Worthington felt his side surrendered their eight-month unbeaten League Two run too tamely at Burton.

The Minstermen went down against the table-topping Brewers following second-half goals from Lucas Aikens and John Mousinho.

It was a defeat that represented the Minstermen’s first in 24 regular league fixtures, discounting their narrow play-off, semi-final loss to Fleetwood.

On Saturday’s showing, Burton look potential title winners.

But, regardless of the home side’s quality, Worthington was unhappy with his team’s display, saying: “We surrendered our good run too easily and that displeases me.

“Burton have been building over the last two or three years, but I won’t use that as an excuse, because I honestly believe we are a decent side. We didn’t show it, though, and one or two of our players need to shake themselves up a bit.

“You can’t just have six, seven or eight men on their game.”

An even first half saw Luke Summerfield test Jon McLaughlin from 25 yards and York defender Keith Lowe headed Mousinho’s lob off the line with Michael Ingham beaten.

After the break, Burton seized control with Aikens netting from 10 yards on 55 minutes after the unfortunate Lowe had blocked a goalbound Adam McGurk effort.

Mousinho then settled matters with a terrific 30-yard strike that rifled into Ingham’s bottom right-hand corner.
