York City took a huge step towards Football League survival with a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Cheltenham Town.

Dave Winfield headed the only goal of the game with 17 minutes remaining to earn Russ Wilcox’s Minstermen only their third home win of the season.

The victory moves York five points clear of danger with six games to go while Cheltenham slump to the foot of the table.
