The Minstermen kept up their play-off push in the Blue Square Bet Premier as top-scorer Rankine glanced in a header from Peter Till’s cross in the 16th minute.

Captain Chris Smith twice went close in the second half, but saw both efforts fly over the crossbar.

The win keeps York in seventh place, seven points behind fifth-placed Kidderminster with three games in hand.
