Play-off chasing Southend left Bootham Crescent with a point after the hosts failed to convert chances for Ryan Bowman, Michael Coulson and Will Hayhurst.

“They’re not easy to win,” said York boss Worthington. “Like the Cheltenham game you’re playing against a decent team who have been in the league for a long time.

“It’s never an easy situation but I can’t really fault the players.

“I thought some of the play at times was very good, the commitment and work ethic was high quality.

“So at home maybe we need just that rub of the green to take us over the line, but the important thing is that we are working at it and towards it so that’s a good thing.”
