Berrett, who was transfer-listed by the Glovers during the summer, struck on 63 minutes to earn the Minstermen their first League Two points of the new season.

York had the better of a low-key first half but the home fans still had to wait 40 minutes for the first shot on target.

When it came, though, former on-loan Minsterman Artur Krysiak reacted well to smother Stephane Zubar’s six-yard chance.

Krysiak was also called into action a second time before the half ended, diving to his left to keep out Russell Penn’s 20-yard drive.

At the other end, Harry Cornick’s weak, deflected shot into the sidenetting proved the Glovers’ only attempt of the first period.

The visitors mustered their first shot on target after 54 minutes, with Scott Flinders saving Cornick’s angled drive at his near post.

But it was York who made the breakthrough on 63 minutes with Berrett’s second goal of the season.

The ex-Huddersfield midfielder took aim 20 yards from goal and beat Krysiak with the help of a big deflection.
