Leeds might have found their man

Leeds United have gone through head coach’s at an alarming rate under chairman Massimo Cellino and few Whites fans were impressed with the appointment of former Rotherham United boss Steve Evans.

But Evans seems to be winning over the Whites contingent who were clearly thrilled with Saturday’s 3-0 succes at Huddersfield Town.

That victory made it back to back wins for Leeds under Evans who next faces his former club Rotherham after the international break.

Food for thought for David Wagner

Wagner’s appointment as Huddersfield Town’s new head coach and successor to Chris Powell came as a surprise with the 44-year-old charged with the task of making the grade in the Championship upon his switch from Borussia Dortmund Reserves.

Huddersfield did not play badly during Saturday’s loss to Leeds, far from it, but a 3-0 defeat nonetheless gives Town’s new man plenty to work on ahead of his first day in the job on Monday with the Terriers just two points above the dropzone.

And harsh truths revealed to Jackie McNamara

Huddersfield aren’t the only team to have undergone a change of management and Jackie McNamara’s first game in charge of York City ended in a 3-2 loss at Accrington in the FA Cup.

McNamara faces a tiotally different challenge to the one he faced at Dundee United and pulled no punches in his assessment of the opening defeat.

“I thought some things were pleasing but from my point of view I thought the goals we lost were very poor,” he said.

“They were too easy.

“You can understand why we haven’t won in 10.

“From middle to front we look a threat when we do things properly and quickly but defensively I think we play as individuals which we need to sort out quickly.”

Hull City highlight title claims

Two promotion-chasing Yorkshire heavy-weights met at the KC on Saturday with Hull and Middlesbrough both tipped for a return to the Premier.

But what could have been expected to be a close encounter turned out to be one-way traffic with the Tigers coasting ato a 3-0 victory with goals from Mohamed Diame, Sam Clucas and Tom Huddlestone.

Hull have quietly gone about their business this season, steadily climbing the table and now Steve Bruce’s are top of the pile and with a two point gap back to third place Burnley.

On Saturday’s evidence, they might well stay there.

Will Barnsley stand by their man?

Barnsley boss Lee Johnson was already under pressure even before Saturday’s FA Cup clash at non-league Altrincham.

After seven consecutive league losses, the fixture would hopefully provide the perfect pick-me-up the Tykes needed.

Yet a 1-0 exit further keeps the heat on Johnson whose side welcome York City on Tuesday in the Football League Trophy.
