YP Power Rankings - Can anyone topple Rotherham United?

EASTER may have come and gone, but there's no change at the top of the order in the latest YP Power Rankings, with the top three runners and riders all being South Yorkshire clubs.

There has been significant movement elsewhere, nevertheless, with Bradford City and Sheffield Wednesday both within sight of the leading trio.

Here are the latest Power Rankings.

A haul of 17 points from 21 is promotion form, let alone statistics of a side purportedly in a relegation fight. But that’s the delicious reality for Rotherham United, with the international break having failed to check their considerable momentum - the Millers following up a sweet late win over Leeds United with a key point at Bristol City.

They top the current Championship form guide for the past six games. Impressive.

2: Barnsley WLWDWW (=)

After an Easter which yielded a presentable four points against Scunthorpe United and Port Vale, Paul Heckingbottom’s Reds proved a wow in front of 24,000 supporters at Wembley to secure their first piece of cup silverware in over a century with a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy success over Oxford United.

It really is a wonderful, wonderful time to be a Barnsley supporter, with play-off glory being the next mission.

3: Sheffield Wednesday LDWWWW (+1)

After a bit of a blip by their standards a month ago, when they went five matches without a win, the Owls - in what is proving a tremendously consistent season - have rallied in accomplished fashion by way of four successive league victories, with the latter two coming against Blackburn Rovers and Huddersfield Town. Just behind the Millers in the Championship form table.

4: Bradford City WWLWWW (+2)

Phil Parkinson’s City are top of the shop in the League One form guide and building up an impressive head of steam ahead of what they hope will be another successful play-off campaign following League Two glory in 2012-13.

Fifth in the table and within one point of third-placed Walsall, City - who have won three on the spin without conceding a goal and triumphed in five of their last six outings - are in a good place.

5: FC Halifax Town DDWLLW (-2)

After a narrow defeat at Dover, the Shaymen claimed a huge win in their quest for survival, thanks to Connor Hughes’s goal in the third minute of stoppage time in Tuesday night’s 3-2 win over fellow relegation candidates Boreham Wood.

They are now two points above the drop zone.

6: Middlesbrough WLLWWW (+2)

Things looked grim on Teesside just over three weeks ago after two desperate losses to Charlton and Rotherham and all manner of turmoil after Aitor Karanka walked out ahead of the Addicks game after a much-published bust-up with some senior players.

That all seems to have been put behind Boro, who have followed up their big pre-Easter win over rivals Hull, with an ultra-tense televised win over QPR and a powerhouse home win over Huddersfield. The ship has been seemingly steadied.

7: Huddersfield Town LWLWLL (-2)

After the highs going into Easter following a barnstorming 4-1 derby win at Elland Road, Town had emerged pointless from two tough admittedly tough assignments against Sheffield Wednesday and Boro. The fixture itinerary is affording them few favours, with Hull next up.

8: Leeds United WWWLLD (-1)

In keeping with another topsy-turvy, chaotic campaign on and off the pitch at Elland Road, the Whites - after claiming three successive wins - have now taken just one point from the last nine with the goodwill of just under a month ago having dissipated.

9: Sheffield United DWLWLW (=)

Win one, lose one, win one (lost one?). It’s been a bit of a metaphor for the Blades’ fitful season, although their weekend home win over Walsall at least enabled them to retain a faint sniff of the play-offs.

But it looks a real long shot, with the only thing consistent about Nigel Adkins’s side this term being their inconsistency.

10: Hull City LDDLWL (=)

Just when Hull fans were heaving a sigh of relief at witnessing their side seemingly getting back on track and rewinding the clock to January with an emphatic 4-0 weekend win over Bristol City, now they are staging a post-mortem after a bruising loss by the same margin at Derby County, which leaves their top-two hopes hanging by a thread. One step forward, two steps back.

11: Guiseley LDLLDD (=)

It is proving a grim war of attrition for the Lions, who are now just two points above the drop zone and remain without a home win since the end of November, with it only being high-flying Cheltenham next up.

Battling spirit has at least been shown in draws against Eastleigh and Chester, but they are 12 games without a win at a seminal part of the season.

12: York City LDLDLD (=)

It is all over bar the shouting for York City, with relegation a near-certainty - with the stricken Minstermen being ten points adrift of safety and bereft of hope, with six games to go.

Six wins in 40 games and no victories in ten matches and three points from the last thirty tells its own story.

13: Doncaster Rovers LLLLLD (=)

For the third game in the past four matches, Rovers were afforded a desperate late kick in the teeth after a goal in the sixth-minute of stoppage time from Rochdale’s Niall Canavan denied them their first win bonus since January 2 in a 2-2 draw at Spotland.

The fact that it ended a run of seven successive defeats was rendered meaningless - with Rovers now seven points adrift of safety after a horrendous 15-match winless sequence.
