Club: Toni-Louise Naylor wins Waterton Park ladies championship

Toni-Louise Naylor came from a shot behind at the halfway stage to win the Waterton Park ladies’ championship by five strokes.

Naylor’s opening 76 put her on the shoulder of Olivia Jay and she stormed past her in round two with a 78 for a 154 total to Jay’s 159 (75 84).

Jan Wood was third (83 91).

Naylor’s victory follows her success in the US Kids European Championship at Gullane last month.

More than 600 players competed in different categories on four courses in East Lothian with Naylor winning the 13-14 year-old girls’ section by one shot from Phoebe Beber-Frankland, of the USA.

After the first round Naylor was lying second with a 77. She subsequently carded a 76 followed by another 77 to take the trophy.

Gordon Owen regained the men’s club championship at Waterton Park after a break of three years.

Following the first round he was three shots ahead of Damian Simpson, having shot an excellent 70, with Jack Owen a further three shots back.

Stronger winds during the second round were reflected in the scoring.

Simpson pulled square within three holes, but Owen stayed calm and used his experience to ease away, returning a 75 for a total of 145, three shots clear of Simpson, who in turn was three shots clear of Jack Owen.
