Hallamshire’s Fitzpatrick leads Yorkshire sextet chasing Carris Trophy success

HALLAMSHIRE’S Alex Fitzpatrick slipped back to four shots off the lead after the second round of the Carris Trophy at Little Aston GC in Staffordshire.

Fitzpatrick added a 75 to his opening round 70 to lie sixth behind the leader, Derbyshire’s Bradley Moore, at the halfway stage.

He recovered well from dropping a shot at the first by birdieing both three and five, but then had six bogeys in a row from the sixth.

Fitzpatrick reduced the damage by birdieing 12 and 14 to remain in contention.

Kealan Lowe (Wheatley) is tied 15th. He had three birdies to be out in 32, but came back home in 41 with four bogeys for a 147 total (74 73).

Moor Allerton’s Tom Murray had matching halves of 38, compiling two birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey at 16, to stand 17th (72 76).

Nathan Fell, of Lindrick, is tied 27th having shaved eight shots off his opening 79. He was out in level with two birdies and two bogeys and came home in one under after negating the effects of a bogey at 13 with interest by birdieing the next two holes.

Fulford’s Charlie Thornton (77 74) shares 36th place, his round including two birdies and four bogeys.

Level with him on 151 after rounds of 76 75 is Otley’s George Muscroft. He was out in 34, but needed 41 shots to reach the clubhouse, shedding five shots to par in five holes from the 12th.

Among the players who missed the 36-hole cut were Tom North (Howley Hall, 73 82), Bailey Gill (Lindrick, 74 82) and Sam Bairstow (Hallowes, 81 76).

Seventeen-year-old leader Moore, from Kedleston Park, had been a stroke ahead after the first round and extended his lead when he added level par 72 to his opening 69.
