LINDRICK'S Sam Rook took a two-shot lead into Thursday's final two rounds of the Yorkshire amateur championship at Ganton.

Rook, who was the leading qualifier at the English men's amateur championship recently, added a second-round 72 to his opening 70 to stand at level par at the halfway stage.

His nearest rival is Malton & Norton's David Hague. The GB & Ireland and England international had opened with a three-under-par 68, but slipped to a 76 on day two.

Hallowes' Sam Bairstow – who matched Rook's 36-hole aggregate of 138 at the English men's amateur – is alone in third place on 145 after shaving one shot off his first-round 73.

Three men are tied for fourth on four-over-par 146 including first-round leader James Swash, of Middlesbrough. He went round in 12 shots more than the 67 that had left him top of the leaderboard.

Alongside him are Hallamshire club-mates Nick King (72 74) and Julian Wood (72 74).

Completing the top 10 one back of King and Wood are Huddersfield's Josh Morton (75 72), Moortown's David Houlding (75 72), Wakefield's Scott MacGregor (74 73) and Meltham's Tom Hunt (71 76).
