The hosts laid the foundations for their win over a side weakened by absentees’ work or holiday commitments by seizing control of the foursomes, which gave them a 9-3 lead at lunch.

Pike Hills’ Martin Brown was playing with a third different partner this season and maintained his perfect record when, in tandem with The Oaks’ James Walker, a 3&2 defeat was handed to the hosts’ leading pair of Huddersfield’s Aron Schnacke and Brad Tupman.

That was almost as good as it got for the champions although Fulford’s Will Pepper and Damon Coulson delivered one point with a half against Meltham’s Graham McLean and West End’s Steve Martin.

Dewsbury’s Matthew Colcombe and Jake Hamilton, of Huddersfield, were a first-time pairing and got the better of York’s Julian Taylor and Malton & Norton’s David Hague 2&1.

Home player Andy Shaw and Huddersfield’s Richard Broadley suffered defeat together against East Riding but this time out were 5&4 victors against the unrelated Adamson pairing of Will (Sandburn) and Olly (Pike Hills).

Dewsbury’s Dan Hartley and Crow Nest Park’s Ben Adamson now have a record of two wins from three after beating York’s Chris Lone and James Walsh (Malton & Norton) 2 up while another home player, Chris Lander, dovetailed well with Outlane’s Jarrad Hazelden to defeat Fulford’s Jamie Miller and Matty Roberts 4&3.

Brown enjoyed another success for York by beating Schnacke in the top singles and there were also away wins for Coulson and Walsh while Walker and Miller came in with halves.

Martin has a perfect singles record from two appearances after beating Hague 3&1while Tupman recorded his second successive 6&5 win, Pepper his unfortunate victim on this occasion.

Shaw won by the same score, against Olly Adamson who was tasting singles defeat for the first time this campaign, and his namesake Will lost by this margin too, against Hamilton.

Hazelden had to go to the last green to defeat Roberts while Hartley saw off Lone more easily, 5&4.

Next up for the leaders, on July 12, are Teesside at Eaglescliffe while York host Bradford at Fulford.
