Horse trials attract equestrian elite

The world’s equestrian elite have cantered into Yorkshire for the Bramham Horse Trials, which get under way today.

Zara Phillips, seen parading her horse Lord Lauries at the ‘trot up’ vet’s inspection in front of Bramham House yesterday, will go head-to-head with Olympic team mates William Fox-Pitt, who is aiming for his seventh Bramham victory, and Northallerton rider Nicola Wilson at the eventing competition, now in its 40th year. The trio, who clinched silver medals in eventing at London 2012, are among 140 riders from 11 countries competing this year, including fellow Britons Pippa Funnell, Oliver Townend, Piggy French and Laura Collett.
