Midday wins Yorkshire Oaks

MIDDAY'S recuperation at Henry Cecil's Helmsley stud paid off as the top trainer's Breeders' Cup heroine won a dramatic renewal of the Darley Yorkshire Oaks on Ladies Day at the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival.

It was the fabulous filly's fourth Group One success, but her task, and that of big race jockey Tom Queally, was made easier when her main rival, Sariska, chose the wrong time to leave the starting stalls under Jamie Spencer.

Sariska's trainer, Michael Bell, was sanguine. "The filly's fine and as Jamie Spencer said, nobody's died," he said.
