The Cheltenham Festival is 1-50 to go ahead on Betfair's will racing go ahead market and the racecourse will be providing additional toilets and handwashing facilities plus extra staff in all toilet areas to ensure that soap and drying facilities are constantly available.

Antibacterial hand gel will also be made available in addition to dedicated hand sanitiser locations while posters around the racecourse will serve as a reminder of public health advice.

Cheltenham are also advising all customers to follow official government public health advice and are encouraging anyone showing signs of coronavirus – a cough, a high temperature or shortness of breath – and who has travelled to an affected region, such as northern Italy, to not attend the festival and self-isolate.

The public health notice released by Cheltenham reads: "Do not travel to the Cheltenham Festival if you have any of the following symptoms: a cough, a high temperature or shortness of breath AND you have been to or transmitted through the high-risk countries, or been in contact with anyone that has, in the last 14 days.

"To protect yourself and others please do not travel and call NHS 111 (GB) or HSE 112 (Republic of Ireland) for expert advice. These measures are being taken in order for us to safeguard everyone’s health and wellbeing during the current public health situation. Thank you for your understanding.
