Katy Marchant, Ollie Wood and Charlie Tanfield out for more track cycling glory after Paris Olympic heroics
There was very little tapering off or even down-time for Leeds’ Katy Marchant or Wakefield’s Ollie Wood and Great Ayton’s Charlie Tanfield following their finest hours in the velodrome at Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines in the summer - the UCI calendar would not allow it.
For this week they are in Ballerup, north of the Danish capital of Copenhagen for the annual track cycling world championships.

Great Britain’s performance director Stephen Park said: “Our women’s sprint squad have had an incredible season and it’ll be fantastic if they can carry that form and be the first British team to do the Olympic and world championships double.”
Marchant is also down to contest the sprint, 500m time-trial and keirin.
Tanfield and Wood were part of the team pursuit squad that re-established itself among the best in the world in Paris, with a silver medal in a tooth-and-nail final which was only decided when Ethan Hayter came off his saddle on the penultimate lap, such was the level of exertion.

However, after their silver-medal winning exploits in Paris, they are ready to challenge for the top step of the podium once again.
Tanfield – who last won a world championship gold medal in this event six years ago and will also contest the individual pursuit – said: “We’ve raised our game this cycle and got back to the front end, where we need to be.
“It wasn’t a true reflection of what we were capable of before Paris, so it’s nice that we’re back there fighting for the front spots.”
