Tanner Eberle gets ready to lay it all on the line again for Sheffield Steelers

AARON FOX says the inclusion of Tanner Eberle on Sheffield Steelers’ roster for the Elite Series will be vital for the popular forward’s preparations for next season.

After a tough first season in South Yorkshire, the Canadian winger had a standout campaign for the Steelers in 2019-20 before the coronavirus pandemic brought an early end to the sport,

Under Fox, Eberle proved a major asset for the Steelers on their way to winning the Challenge Cup, finishing the campaign with 57 points in 63 games, including 27 goals.

But the gritty 27-year-old has perhaps suffered more than most of Steelers’ roster since the early end to last season, having not played any hockey since, although Fox’s decision to bring him in for the Elite Series is further evidence of how much the Steelers’ head coach rates him.

“Tanner is a guy who can play any forward position,” said Fox, who earlier this week announced his first import signing in the shape of Norwegian defenceman Adrian Saxrud Danielsen. “He kills penalties, is a great net front PP guy and lays it on the line every single night.

“Ebz is the type of player that all winning teams have on it. I will have to ease him into it to get his legs back but he’s assured me he’s in shape and ready to roll.

“He was such a huge part of our success last year and hasn’t played at all since then so I think this five weeks is super important for him as a player to knock the rust off and hopefully get ready for September.”
