Ubettabelieveit was a 40-1 winner - even if jockey Rowan Scott could not
Trained at Malton by in-form Nigel Tinkler, the Kodiac sprinter was making amends after finishing a disapppointing last in the Gimcrack Stakes at York. The drop down in trip, and Scott getting cover in the race, helped.
There were plenty in with chances a furlong out, with Sacred seemed sure to gain compensation for her narrow Lowther Stakes defeat at York, but Scott managed to keep Ubettabelieveit on a true line.
The winning margin was so close that the disbelieving jockey, who recently rode out his claim, had to check the number on his saddle cloth when the photo-finish result was called.
Tinkler said: “He’s a very, very good horse. Last time, I probably shouldn’t have run him over six there. Everything went wrong, but luckily Oisin Murphy looked after him. How he was 40-1 – it was probably because I trained him! National Stakes winner, 40-1 for this, unbelievable.”
