Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk is due to take place in Saudi Arabia on May 18.

Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk is almost upon us and it is poised to be the one of the biggest fights in boxing over the last decade, with the heavyweight titles to be unified for the first time since 2000.

The last time the major heavyweight world titles were all unified came when Lennox Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield by unanimous decision.

However, he never had a chance to defend his undisputed crown as he was stripped of the WBA version of the belt after agreeing to face his WBC mandatory challenger, Michael Grant. Should we have an undisputed champion after Saturday night, if the winner then goes on to defend it, it would be the first defence of the heavyweight undisputed championship since 1991, when Holyfield defeated George Foreman.

The fight, as well as all the fights on the undercard, will take place at the Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia. This is the same venue that hosted the ‘Battle of the Baddest’ Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou show back in October of 2023.

Additionally, the Kingdom Arena also hosted Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou, as well as the rest of the ‘Knockout Chaos’ show back in March. It is a new stadium - it was built over the course of 180 days in 2023, opening in the same year. It seats over 30,000 people, features a retractable roof and also contains 20 luxury VIP boxes.

A multi-purpose arena, the Kingdom Arena has played host to several other sporting events. It hosted Al Hilal vs. Inter Miami in January and Al Hilal vs. Al Nassr in February, as well as the SAFF Women’s Cup final between Al-Ahli and Al-Shabab. Furthermore, it was also the arena where the PFL vs Bellator MMA event took place.

Chiefly, it is the home ground of Al Hilal - the Blue Power have held the rights to call the Kingdom Arena their home since September of 2023.
