Prosperous start is needed by Stingrays

Defenceman Brendan Jamison admits the “first strike” will be crucial for Hull stingrays this weekend in their double-header with Elite League rivals Fife Flyers.

Stingrays head to Kirkcaldy tomorrow night before they meet again at Hull Arena on Sunday (6pm face-off) in a Gardiner Conference showdown.

Omar Pacha’s men sit three points behind Flyers with four games in hand and can move above their rivals with a four-point weekend.

“This is a huge weekend,” said American-born Jamison. “They are playing really well so it should be a good couple of days.

“It is very important for us to have a good start. If you don’t have a good start, especially in Scotland where the fans are pretty loud, then we start getting into a sloppy type of game and we cannot do that.

“To get that first win, especially in a back-to-back series, is important because you can then go into the next game with a lot of momentum.”

So far this season the series between the two is evenly split, Hull winning 3-1 on home ice at the end of October before losing out 8-3 at Fife the following weekend.
