Reveley heads Yorkshire challenge

Alan King’s 11-year-old was on 11st 12lb along with Hey Big Spender, but that horse has been taken out after running at Haydock last weekend.

Medermit has been highly-tried this term, finishing fourth in the Charlie Hall Chase, sixth in the Betfair Chase and second to Sam Winner at Aintree last time.

King has also left in Godsmejudge in the three-mile handicap, formerly known as the Great Yorkshire Chase, for which 22 horses remain.

The Yorkshire challenge is headed by Keith Reveley’s course specialist Night In Milan, Malcolm Jefferson’s Attaglance and Sue Smith’s two-time Grand National contender Mr Moonshine.

Oliver Sherwood is hoping his Hennessy Gold Cup winner Many Clouds, a winner at Wetherby in December 2013, can take another step forward when he runs in the BetBright Cup Chase at Cheltenham on Saturday.

The Upper Lambourn trainer is keen to get experience of the Prestbury Park course into the eight-year-old ahead of a crack at the Betfred Gold Cup in March.

Paul Nicholls will step up the work of his Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup contenders Silviniaco Conti and Sam Winner in the coming days.

Since winning the prestigious King George VI Chase at Kempton for a second time, Silviniaco Conti has just been going through the motions at Nicholls’s Ditcheat yard.

Today’s Wetherby meeting must pass an 8am inspection.
