Rising star Clarkson strengthens Points lead

The 21-year-old GB rider crossed the line at Keighley’s Oakbank School just five seconds ahead of veteran Ian Taylor, the 41-year-old from Skipton who rides for the Jedi Cyclesport team, while 16-year-old Oakworth talent Alfie Moses (Paul Milnes RT) was third, another 28 seconds off the pace.

Former senior national champion Chris Young (Pedalsport CC) proved age is no barrier to success when the 50-year-old from Keighley won the over-50 race, while the fastest female was Bradford’s Annie Simpson (Hope Factory Racing).

In road racing, Hull rider Danny Posnett claimed victory in the Selby CC Road Race yesterday, staged on the Riccall circuit in North Yorkshire and held over 35 miles.

The 24-year-old, who rides for the Hull Thursday Road Club, took the win ahead of John Smith, the 37-year-old from Rotherham who rides for the ‘Out of the Saddle’ team, while Doncaster’s Jonathan Harvey (Dinnington Road Club) was third.

The event also included a round of the Yorkshire Women’s Road Race Series, and Grantham-based 29-year-old Charlotte Colclough (Team Jadan) took the victory, ahead of Sarah Burke, 23 and from Caythorpe, also in Lincolnshire.

The only Yorkshire-based rider on the podium was Natalie Hodson (PH Mas Cycling) in third spot, the 29-yerar-old coming from just down the road in York.

Team Sky and Sir Bradley Wiggins missed out on a medal by just over two seconds in the team time trial at the Road World Championships in Ponferrada, northern Spain.

The quartet of Dario Cataldo, Vasil Kiryienka, Kanstantsin Siutsou and Wiggins stopped the clock in one hour, four minutes and 7.14 seconds after losing Salvatore Puccio and Geraint Thomas early on.

American team BMC Racing emerged victorious on the 57.1km course, 37.29secs faster than the British team.

Orica-GreenEdge were second, while Omega Pharma-QuickStep took third on the final ride of the day.
