Betfred RL Championship: Drop goal delivers golden point heartache for Batley Bulldogs but Featherstone Rovers and Dewsbury Rams triumph

Izaac Farrell landed a 25m drop goal to secure Sheffield Eagles a golden point win in extra time at Batley Bulldogs.

With the match level at 18-18, Farrell held his nerve to clinch victory. Aaron Brown (2) and Ryan Millar scored Eagles’ tries, Farrell converting two.

Batley’s tries came from Alistair Leak, James Brown and a penalty try, Dale Morton kicking two conversions.

Featherstone Rovers ran in six tries in a 34-10 at London Broncos.

James Harrison, Ben Blackmore, Jack Bussey, Craig Hall – who kicked five conversions – Louis Jouffret and Josh Hardcastle all crossed.

Michael Knowles, Sam Day and Adam Ryder scored tries and Paul Sykes landed two conversions and two penalties but it was Dewsbury Rams’ defensive effort that earned them an 20-8 victory at home to Widnes Vikings. Rams led 14-8 at the interval and held their nerve – and their defensive line intact – for the remainder of the encounter. Pack man Ellis Robson got the Widnes try with full-back converting and adding a penalty.

Bradford Bulls scored 24 unanswered points in the first half on their way to a 26-12 win at Oldham.

Sam Hallas, Steve Crossley, Brandon Pickersgill and Joe Cater crossed, Rowan Milnes booting four conversions and a penalty.

Winger Shaun Robinson scored two and made one as Halifax bounced back from back-to-back losses to beat York City Knights 28-4.
