Castleford Tigers' 2025 squad continues to take shape with Alex Mellor re-signing

Alex Mellor has become the latest player to commit to Castleford Tigers as their 2025 squad continues to take shape.

The back-rower, who joined the Tigers from Leeds Rhinos midway through the 2022 campaign, has signed a two-year contract extension.

Mellor is closing in on a half-century of appearances for Castleford after scoring seven tries in 47 games.

Director of rugby Danny Wilson said: "Alex has shown what he's all about over the last six weeks.

"It was a big loss to lose him so early on against St Helens but he’s shown the type of player he can be: a tough, line-running forward.

"He's athletic, he fits our DNA in what we're trying to achieve and he's a competitor, as well as a good voice in the group."

The 29-year-old, who started his career at Bradford Bulls before a spell with Huddersfield Giants, joins academy products George Hill, Jason Qareqare, Sam Hall and Cain Robb in signing fresh terms.

"I think the reason he wants to stay is that he believes in the plan and the project of trying to establish Castleford as a top-six Super League club," added Wilson.

"He believes in where we’re going and wants to be a part of driving that forward for Castleford."
