Castleford Tigers’ fans face tricky vote on club’s Team of the Decade

That comes in handy when assessing just who will make a Team of the Decade, a feature the West Yorkshire club launched yesterday.

Massey, 30, is sure to figure heavily in fans’ polls given he has amassed almost 250 games since debuting for Castleford in 2007.

That said, given he has regularly played prop and No 13, there is a chance the tireless forward might get lost in the middle of the two positions.

Nevertheless, the depth of talent that has graced Castleford since 2010 is remarkable, underlined by the fact they have boasted three Steve Prescott Man of Steel winners in that time, more than any other club.

Mercurial stand-off Rangi Chase (2011), dazzling hooker Daryl Clark (2014) and the brilliant scrum-half Luke Gale (2017) all scooped Super League’s big individual award and are all likely to earn plenty of votes.

But who is the best player Massey has played with at Wheldon Road in the 2010s?

“It is tricky,” he said.

“There’s been some great players over the last 10 years at Cas. We’ll see what happens with this vote and it will be interesting.

“Obviously, Rangi when he arrived and what he did here, he was just unbelievable.

“We’ve had players like that and Galey as well who are just true class. But now we’ve got Truey (Jake Trueman) as well.”

Half-back Trueman, 21, won Super League’s Young Player of the Year in 2018 and was called up for Great Britain’s tour of New Zealand and Papua New Guinea last autumn as well as representing England Nines.

Massey said: “He’s probably one of the best players I’ve ever played with given his natural ability. Obviously he’s still got a lot of progression to go but just from what he’s done the last couple of years it’s nothing short of unbelievable really.

“For a kid his age it’s amazing.”

Halifax are mourning the death of their legendary former player, coach and Hall of Famer Jack Scroby. He was assistant coach when ‘Fax won the Challenge Cup in 1987.
