Tigers, who do not have a game this weekend, say the Australian is the subject of a club internal investigation.

A brief statement issued by the club said: “Castleford Tigers RLFC can confirm that Justin Carney has been suspended from the club with immediate effect, whilst an internal investigation is undertaken.

“Castleford Tigers will not be making any further comment at this time.”

Carney - known as The Beast or the Tank on the Flank because of his powerful running and finishing - has developed into one of the top wingers in Super League since joining Tigers from Sydney Roosters ahead of the 2013 season.

A try scorer in last Saturday’s defeat at Catalans Dragons, he has scored 18 tries in as many appearances this year.

He joined the club on an initial two-year contract and signed a new five-year deal last season.

Tigers’ next game is a crucial First Utility Super-8s fixture at Huddersfield Giants on Thursday, September 3.
