Catalans Dragons v Hull KR - It’s all French to Mitch Garbutt

MITCH Garbutt’s French lessons are coming along fine but he wants to help Hull KR finish with a bang before properly heading across the Channel.

The Australian prop, 31, joins Toulouse Olympique for 2021 and is in the south of France today as KR face Catalans Dragons.

“I’m tour guide for this trip; I’ve learned all my French!” he joked, ahead of tonight’s contest at Stade Gilbert Brutus.

“I’m all ready to go and am looking forward to Friday’s game. It’s been a weird year with everything that’s happened.

“When it comes to Toulouse, it will be a challenge with the language barrier but also to help get them promoted and that’s highly motivating for me.

“On a personal level, the missus and kids can’t wait. We’re nearly packed, to be honest; it’ll only be five or six weeks away.

“But I want to get a few more wins with KR before then.”

Bottom-placed Rovers have found it tough with just one victory since the season restart but Garbutt retains belief.

Catalans, meanwhile, have two former Robins in their side – Joel Tomkins and Josh Drinkwater.

Ex-Leeds Rhinos forward Garbutt said: “They are great fellas and great team-mates; I enjoyed playing with both.

“Catalans know they have two good ones there and they’ve added a lot to that team.

“With (Israel) Folau and (James) Maloney and all those blokes in the forward pack as well, it should be a good test for us in Perpignan.”
