Daryl Powell has confidence Castleford Tigers can handle swift turnaround

TWO games in four days is a tall order, but Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell is approaching this week’s fixture double in a positive frame of mind.

Castleford face Warrington Wolves in Super League tomorrow and return to St Helens’s TW Stadium on Sunday for a delayed Challenge Cup sixth round tie against Hull.

Under normal circumstances, other than over the Easter bank holiday weekend, teams are guaranteed at least a five-day turnaround between matches, but Powell feels his men are physically and mentally strong enough to cope with what is about to be thrown at them.

“I think we have got players with a mindset to be able to do it.” Powell said of his side’s impending schedule.

“It is certainly tough, you come out of one game and only have a team run going into the next one, which is going to be pretty light.

“But both teams are the same. It is difficult, but we can do it.”

Castleford are in high spirits following a 37-30 win over Salford six days ago.

That was their first victory since Super League resumed following the coronavirus shutdown and came after they trailed 18-0 inside 11 minutes.

Powell added: “The players have got the right mentality at the moment and I see a really hungry, happy group of players.

“I watched them train the other day and they were great.

“They have a real focus about them, they are having a bit of fun in training and we have just got to go and play and do ourselves justice.

“Our leaders have got to do what they did last weekend, they’ve all got to play well.”
