'Excellent fit': Leeds Rhinos complete Jack Bird signing
Former New South Wales representative Jack Bird has been described as an "excellent fit" for Leeds Rhinos after completing his move to Headingley.
The 30-year-old, who made five State of Origin appearances and has featured 179 times in the NRL, joins the Rhinos on a two-year deal.
Leeds dipped into the recruitment market after Max Simpson sustained a season-ending knee injury.
Sporting director Ian Blease said: "Jack is a quality, experienced player who will add depth and competition to our squad.
"With Max Simpson sadly ruled out for the season following his knee injury, it was important for us to act quickly to ensure we remain strong across the backline.
"Jack's ability to cover multiple positions and his big-game experience make him an excellent fit for Leeds Rhinos."
Bird spent last season with Wests Tigers after spells at Cronulla Sharks, Brisbane Broncos and St George Illawarra Dragons.
The utility man links back up with former Brisbane team-mates Brodie Croft and Keenan Palasia at Headingley.

"I'm really excited to be joining Leeds Rhinos," said Bird. "It's a huge club with a proud history and a passionate supporter base.
"I know a few of the boys; Brodie Croft and Keenan Palasia could not speak more highly of the club. I can’t wait to get stuck in.
"I've heard so much about how great the atmosphere is and am looking forward to experiencing it for myself on Friday night for the game against York."
Next week's Las Vegas clash with Hull KR comes too soon for Bird, who will wear the number 33 shirt. He is set to come into contention for the Headingley derby against Castleford Tigers the following weekend.
Rhinos head coach Brad Arthur said: "Jack brings toughness, professionalism and a high level of football intelligence.
"He's competed at the top level and understands what it takes to prepare and perform week in, week out.
"We're confident he'll add value to our group both on and off the field and help drive standards as we head into the new season."
