They lost a third successive game yesterday despite having most of the ball against champions St Helens.

The hosts eventually slipped 11-8 and asked if he could believe they did not prosper, he replied: “I can believe we didn’t win that match because that’s the way we’re going.

“We’re fighting and scrapping, and getting some rewards off the back of our efforts, but we’re lacking a bit of composure and smartness in the right areas of the field.

“We’re not too far off. If we were getting pumped every week I’d be worried.

“But there were three points in it today, four in the last game and six the one before.

“We’ve just got to keep our discipline and take our opportunities. At the end I thought we were trying to score all the time rather than staying nice and calm and waiting for opportunities to come.

“It was a scrappy game but you’ve got to grind it out,” he said.

Huddersfield players grew increasingly irritated by some of the decisions made by referee James Child who seemed to lose control of the contest.

They had been irked by him on Good Friday when he failed to spot Salford player Rangi Chase’s illegal “cannonball” tackle that left crocked Brett Ferres facing four months on the sidelines.

“He was shocking – like the game,” said Anderson.

“But we let the bloke in the middle affect us.

“When Saints went down to 12 men, we got worse,” added Anderson.
