Four-try Greenwood extends Batley’s run

In-form Miles Greenwood scored four tries as Batley registered their fourth win in as many games.

The Bulldogs were constantly dangerous going forward, a fact epitomised by Greenwood whose tries took his tally to an astonishing 11 in just four games.

Victory moved the Bulldogs into fifth, and whilst they experienced a slow start to the campaign, they appear to have found their form approaching the business end of the season.

John Kear’s side were never in danger of losing the contest, with two early tries from Greenwood, converted by Leatherbarrow, putting the hosts ahead before John Davies’s try 18 minutes before the break, also converted by Leatherbarrow, had given the hosts a deserved 18-0 lead at the interval.

Barrow, who put in an abject first-half display, did show some resilience at the start of the second period and reaped the rewards when Max Wiper touched down Brad Marwood’s clever kick. It resulted in a nervy period for Batley as Bobby Goulding’s Raiders threatened a further try, however any hopes of a comeback were quashed when Greenwood crossed for his third following Vinny Finigan’s 60-yard break 14 minutes before the end.

There was still time for Greenwood to get a fourth try nine minutes before the end following Luke Blake’s run down the middle, before Finigan added emphasis to the scoreline as he dived over after neat play from Lee Paterson.
