Head coach Daryl Powell says Grant Millington’s legacy at Castleford Tigers is “pretty special” after the popular Australian prop extended his stay into a 10th season.

Millington, who turns 34 at the start of next month, joined from Canterbury Bulldogs at the end of 2011 and has become a firm fans’ favourite at Wheldon Road.

After impressing again this term, he has now signed a new deal until the end of 2021.

Powell admitted: “Overseas players come over to the UK and spend time at clubs, but for a player to spend 10 seasons with one is pretty special and almost unheard of.

“Millo’s grown, certainly in my time at the club, and has been an awesome player for Castleford Tigers in every way.

“I’m delighted that he is staying here with us.

“I think he’s revitalised and the way I see him at the moment, and what we’ve seen at the start of this season and since the lockdown is that he is in fantastic shape and playing some of the best rugby league of his career.”

With more than 200 appearances, ball-handling Millington has played more times than any other overseas player in the club’s history.

He hopes to add another against Hull FC on Sunday and said: “I’ve almost spent a third of my life here when you really think about it and had some of the best moments of my life.

“The birth of my three kids, the League Leaders’ Shield, the Grand Final: they are all things that I know I’m going to remember forever.

“But I still honestly believe that we’ve got something pretty special here. I firmly believe that we can still do things and I’m desperate to make it here in what could be my final year.”

Leeds Rhinos winger Tom Briscoe, 30, has signed a new deal until the end of 2022.
