Halifax 46 London 22: Eight-try Halifax keep top-four hopes alive

The game was more or less over as a contest by half-time as tries from Dane Manning, Ben Kaye, Ben Johnston, Steve Tyrer and James Saltonstall gave Halifax a 30-6 lead at Cougar Park.

The Broncos, who took an early lead through Rhys Williams’s second-minute try, regrouped after the interval and restored some pride when Williams crossed the whitewash again and Oscar Thomas and Wes Naiqama also touched down.

But Halifax were not to be denied a fifth successive win, which strengthened their grip on fourth place, and a second-half brace of tries from Ross Divorty and another score by Mitch Cahalane added gloss to the victory.

It was initially a good start from the Broncos, scoring in the first set of the game.

But Halifax responded well, Tyrer going beyond the 500th goal of his career in the process.

Trailing 30-6 at the interval, London were once again first to scored in the half when Williams went over, before Thomas and Naiqama crossed.

But Richard Marshall’s side ended any hopes the visitors had of a comeback, when Divorty powered his way over on 74 mintes.

The points were secured when Cahalane darted away to complete the scoring late on.

Halifax are level on points with Featherstone Rovers, as they battle for coveted fourth place.
