Hat-trick hero Sio earns Chester praise

The Australian scored the first treble of his career to take his tally to six tries in just five Super League games since joining from Parramatta Eels.

Asked about the 24-year-old’s finishing, Chester replied: “Ken? He’s just a freak.

“But we’ve got a few freaks in this team; Albert Kelly’s try in the second half still took some scoring.

“These guys will get better and hopefully now they have got that belief. I said to them afterwards that we are a good rugby league team and we need to start believing in ourselves a little bit more.”

Rovers fell 20-10 down at half-time but were brilliant after the break as they scored seven unanswered tries, including an outstanding solo effort from scrum-half Kelly, to lift them off bottom and surge up to eighth.

Debutant Shaun Lunt also crossed for a brace after his recent season-long loan from Huddersfield Giants.

“I’m happy for Shaun and he’s really happy too,” said Chester. “He’ll play a big part in this team moving forward and had a solid game having had to come on after 12 minutes or so for John (Boudebza) who unfortunately got concussed.

“I never saw that scoreline coming but at half-time I always thought we were in with a shout of winning.

“We still know we’ve a lot to fix up at the start of games – we’re not getting carried away – but it’s pleasing that one to 17 all had a dig.”

Prop Mitch Allgood departed with a finger injury but should be fit for Sunday’s trip to Widnes.
