Hull FC pull out of Treigh Stewart signing due to 'alleged domestic violence'

Hull FC have pulled out of the deal for Treigh Stewart following an incident of alleged domestic violence involving the Papua New Guinea representative.

The Black and Whites announced the signing of Stewart only last week as part of a double mid-season swoop that has taken Jed Cartwright – the son of incoming head coach John – to the MKM Stadium.

However, Hull have now decided against signing the full-back.

"The club have been made aware of an incident of alleged domestic violence involving the player in Australia," read the statement.

"Hull FC have therefore officially withdrawn their contract offer to the player and can confirm he will not be joining the club.

"The club takes a strong zero-tolerance policy on all forms of domestic violence."

Stewart was all set to compete for the full-back spot with Jack Walker, Logan Moy and Davy Litten after serving his apprenticeship in the NSW and Queensland Cup competitions, most recently with Brisbane Tigers.

Hull's decision to pull the plug on the deal means Richie Myler must continue his search for backline reinforcements.

"Treigh is a really exciting prospect," said Myler at the time of Stewart's signing.

"Our competition for places for the full-back position is a mouth-watering thought with some great young talent at our disposal.

"Similarly to Jed, he's been around a great set-up in the form of Melbourne Storm earlier this year. He'll give us pace and some much-needed additional attacking threat."
