Koukash is thwarted for second time

SUPER LEAGUE clubs have once more vetoed introducing a marquee player rule.

Salford Red Devils owner Marwan Koukash revealed last night he has again failed to persuade the majority to back his proposal.

He wants Super League to make an exception to the salary-cap regulations so clubs can make a major signing to raise the competition’s profile.

Koukash saw his plan fail to gain the necessary support in February and his latest attempt to bring in the exemption also floundered at a meeting of clubs at Headingley.

“Once again my plan for a marquee player has been blocked by the RFL friendly clubs,” he wrote on Twitter. “So frustrating “

Big-spending Championship leaders Leigh Centurions have agreed a two-year deal with former Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Bradford Bulls half-back Ben Jeffries, the Australian who will emerge from the mines to continue his playing career in England.

He returned home in 2012 to play part-time rugby and take up a distinctly different career path but, at 34, returns to full-time rugby with promotion-chasing Leigh this December.

Salford’s Lama Tasi is at the RFL disciplinary tonight potentially facing a three-game ban for the reckless, high tackle that knocked out Huddersfield Giants captain Danny Brough on Saturday.
