Leeds Rhinos boss Brad Arthur talks recruitment as he confirms Jordan Rapana play

Brad Arthur has confirmed that Leeds Rhinos are in the market for an outside back after missing out on Jordan Rapana.

The veteran Canberra Raiders winger, who has spent most of this season at full-back, has signed a two-year marquee contract with Hull FC, according to Hull Live.

Leeds have re-signed Headingley favourite Ryan Hall and can boast one of Super League's best wingers in Ash Handley but Arthur is keen to strengthen his options in the outside backs following the decision to let David Fusitu'a go.

"He (Rapana) was someone we had some interest in," he said.

"We’ve got two quota spots we are looking at and we’ve had a lot of players thrown at us.

"We just want to make sure whatever players we bring in, they are better than the players we’ve got and they can do their job and make a difference to the team.

"Another quality outside back to keep people honest and competition for places would be handy and a strong front-rower who could get some minutes would be good as well.

"He's going to another team now so I'm not really interested in talking about Jordan Rapana's qualities but (we'd like) someone who can carry the ball strong and help us get out of the backfield, someone that’s nice and competitive."

The interest in Rapana raises questions about the make-up of Leeds' backline in 2025.

Harry Newman and Paul Momirovski have been the Rhinos' first-choice centres this season but Handley has experience in the position.

"He can play in the centres, but you’re asking me questions about next year, which I appreciate, but until I get a good pre-season I won’t know enough to answer those questions 100 per cent honestly," added Arthur.

"We definitely want to boost the squad. We have two quota spots and we just need to make sure we fill them with players that our worthy of joining our team."
