Leeds Rhinos must improve to maintain pole position in Super League

Leeds climbed above Wigan Warriors and Castleford Tigers on points difference when they made a winning return from their coronavirus layoff against Huddersfield Giants three days ago.

It was their fifth victory from six games this season, but they trailed 26-6 with 12 minutes remaining before four tries sent the match into extra-time and Luke Gale’s golden point drop goal won it.

Myler knows they cannot rely on a similar fightback against champions St Helens on Sunday and conceded: “We didn’t play well for 60 minutes, but I thought we showed a lot of character and belief in ourselves to pull it out the bag when it mattered.”

He stressed: “We need to improve for this week because we know Saints are a big threat.

“We were all disappointed with what we turned out in the first half.

“We all recognise that we were a bit off and we needed to put it right.

“Unfortunately it took until the last 20 minutes to do that, but I thought once we got that momentum in our favour we were pretty hard to stop.”

Myler is out of contract in November and was set to join Toronto Wolfpack for 2021, but that is in doubt after they withdrew from this year’s competition.

The England scrum-half turned stand-in full-back insisted: “My job is just to do my best for the team, my focus is on that.

“It is a bit of uncertain times at the minute, but I have been around long enough to know these things work themselves out and what will be will be.”
