Leeds Rhinos "pulled our pants down again" says irate Huddersfield Giants chief

Furious Huddersfield Giants coach Simon Woolford says he cannot make “excuses” for his under-performing players any more after they had their “pants pulled down again” by Leeds Rhinos.

His side were 10-0 up at half-time against their derby rivals but got pegged back to go 12-10 behind in the second period.

Although they levelled, Rhinos scrum-half Luke Gale - who hit the Golden Point winner when they met at the start of last month - slotted a 74th minute drop goal to leave Huddersfield staring at a six-match losing run.

Leeds came from 26-6 down to win last time and Woolford said: “It’s not the defeat, it's the way we lost.

“That’s twice now. Full respect to them hanging in there; Rich (Agar) certainly has a team that has learned to hang in games.

“But we got what we deserved in the end.

“We had a good first half but the first set of the second half they go straight through our middle.

“That’s individuals not getting their job right often enough.

“You have to play for 80 minutes but unfortunately we have some individuals who can’t do it.

“I’m over the excuses; it’s not an age thing.

“To get your jobs wrong straight after half time is not fatigue.

“Maybe I praised them too much at half-time and they went out patting themselves on the back.

“But that’s three one-point losses now since we came back.”

With a torrential downpour in the second half, it was always going to be difficult but Woolford said: “In those conditions, we had blokes leading into contact with the ball; it’s stupidity.

“We gave Luke Gale three pops (at a drop goal). Normally he only needs one.

“The third time we gave him the ball back there was only going to be one result.

“We had pants pulled down again. We got what we deserved.”
