Leeds Rhinos star Tom Briscoe signs new deal ahead of Challenge Cup final

It is a sign of how well Tom Briscoe has returned from a ruptured ACL that Leeds Rhinos have today announced the former England winger has signed a new two-year deal.

Briscoe, 30, missed most of last season having required a knee reconstruction but he has recaptured his best form in 2020 to secure his future at Emerald Headingley.

The ex-Hull FC wideman, who won the Lance Todd trophy with his record-breaking five tries in Rhinos' 2015 Challenge Cup final win over Hull KR, returns to Wembley when Leeds face Salford Red Devils on Saturday.

He has scored 81 tries in 161 games for Rhinos since joining from Hull in 2014 and won two Super League titles with the West Yorkshire club.

“I am really pleased to have my future sorted, especially in these uncertain times for so many," said Featherstone-born Briscoe, whose deal was due to expire at the end of this campaign.

"I am happy with my form since coming back into the team and it is an exciting time to be part of the squad.

"We have seen the young lads come through this season; I enjoy working with them and it brings the best out of me.

"We have got real competition now for the outside backs position and that is forcing everyone to be their very best in every training session.

"I think it is great for them and great for the team that they bring that enthusiasm into the camp.”

Rhinos director of rugby Kevin Sinfield added: “We are pleased to have agreed a new deal with Tom.

"He is one of our most experienced players and is a key senior member of our group.

"He has been great with our young players this season since we returned from lockdown.

"He has led by example with his own form especially after the hard work and commitment he showed to get back from a serious knee injury last year.”
