Lock Lane set up dream Hull KR tie as Challenge Cup picture becomes clearer

Lock Lane booked the tie of a lifetime against holders Hull KR after beating Brighouse in the first round of the Challenge Cup.

The Castleford amateur side will take on the treble winners early next month following a resounding 42-6 win at Brighouse Sports Club.

Lock Lane become the latest non-league team to benefit from the cup's new format, which sees Super League clubs enter the competition early.

Last year, Wests Warriors faced Leeds Rhinos, West Hull took on St Helens and York Acorn met Hull FC.

The magnitude of a date with the all-conquering Robins is not lost on Lock Lane head coach Brad Roberts, even if his side give up home advantage as expected.

"It's absolutely massive," he said.

"As a club we've just been focused on playing Brighouse but now we can start to enjoy it.

"We're playing Hull KR next and it's just like, wow."

The winners of the tie had been due to face Featherstone Rovers in round two but Lock Lane have received a bye after the Post Office Road club were denied membership for 2026.

Centre Lewis Price scored a hat-trick in a nine-try victory for the National Conference League Premier Division team.

Elsewhere in the Challenge Cup over the weekend, Stanningley saw off Dewsbury Moor 24-22 to set up a second-round clash with Championship side Hunslet for the right to play Huddersfield Giants.

Mirfield will face Goole Vikings after beating Woodhouse Warriors 36-4, while a 42-12 win for West Hull against King Cross Park booked a date with Dewsbury Rams.

Heworth are preparing for a clash with Keighley Cougars after the Royal Air Force were forced to forfeit their first-round tie.

Siddal missed out on the second round following a 22-14 defeat to Waterhead Warriors.

The second-round ties will take place this weekend.
