New Wakefield Trinity boss Daryl Powell expresses delight after retaining Liam Hood

New Wakefield Trinity boss Daryl Powell has expressed his delight after retaining Liam Hood for the 2024 Championship season.

The experienced hooker, who began his career with Leeds Rhinos and can count Salford Red Devils and Leigh Leopards among his other former clubs, has made 42 appearances in two seasons with Trinity.

Hood will line up alongside Max Jowitt, Luke Gale and Mason Lino in a star-studded spine in the second tier.

The 31-year-old becomes the first player to commit to Wakefield under Powell and new owner Matt Ellis, with more announcements expected in the coming days as the club rebuild their squad for life in the Championship.

"Liam is one of those players who binds a group together," said Powell.

"He has great leadership skills, is skilful and a tough and uncompromising defender.

"I’m delighted he has agreed to extend his time at the club and be one of the foundation players in this next exciting era at Wakefield Trinity.

"I look forward to working with him in the coming years to see just how good he can become."
