Featherstone lost 16-12 in a fiercely-fought game at the Championship leaders on Sunday.

It is the second time they have narrowly missed out on defeating the big-spending side, who seem set to finish top for a third year running.

Griffin said: “We were unfortunate. That’s two games we’ve had against Leigh and only lost by a total of 10 points.

“We were only six away when we played them at home and it was close again at the weekend.

“With a bit better execution from us we could quite easily have won. But crucial plays at crucial times let us down.”

Featherstone remain in sixth place, but are just one point adrift of fourth-placed Halifax and still believe they will reach the Qualifiers.

“We’re 100 per cent confident we can,” added the former Leeds Rhinos front-row.

“We went into that Leigh game on the back of a great performance, putting 60 points past Swinton.

“We know we can beat anyone in this league having already defeated London Broncos, a full-time side, and twice pushing Leigh close.

“With a full squad, at the back end of the year – if we get in there – we can give it a real go. But we can’t afford any more slip-ups; there’s three of us around that 20-point mark.”

Bradford Bulls are fifth, also on 20 points, but play their game in hand against Oldham tomorrow night while Halifax hold the coveted final spot of fourth with 21.
