Ryan Hall talks up Dom Young's chances of beating his own England record

Ryan Hall extended his England tryscoring record with a double in the win over France – but the veteran believes it may one day be broken by the man on the opposite wing.

The 34-year-old was recalled to the side for the second World Cup group game in Bolton after Dom Young and Tommy Makinson were preferred against Samoa last week.

Hall underlined his value to his country by scoring twice in the early stages in a typically powerful performance.

Young – 13 years Hall's junior – played second fiddle in the first half but took his tournament try tally to four with a double of his own, the second a thrilling length-of-the-field effort.

The Huddersfield Giants academy product has some way to go to surpass Hall's 37 tries in England colours but the record holder reckons he is on the right track.

“If he's as professional as he's shown so far, I'm sure he could,” said Hall. "I'm sure you'll hear his name for years and years to come.

"He's a young athlete and is still learning the game. He's got some obvious raw talents which he's displayed over 160 minutes so far in this World Cup.

"He's just going to get better and better with age. He needs a bit of finetuning in a couple of areas but he's got a very sponge-like brain and will absorb everything.

"For him to be training with the group that he is, I'm sure he'll pick up quite a few things and will be all the better for it."

Hall's two tries in the 42-18 win, which all but secured England's quarter-final place, took him into joint third place in the all-time international list alongside Australia great Darren Lockyer.

The Hull KR winger was quick to play down the achievement.

"I don't mean to be blasé but it's just a stat and a byproduct of playing in a good team," he said.

"I'm a winger who normally only ever finishes moves. There are a lot of cogs that go into the wheel that provides for me.

"I got two end products of good teamwork again today."
