Swinton 34 York City Knights 24: York suffer Lions loss

JAMES CLARE scored for York on his dual-reg debut from Castleford but the Knights lost 34-24 at Swinton in League One.

Former Salford veteran Stuart Littler was the Lions’ star with a hat-trick, including two tries in four minutes midway through the second half, that took his side clear at 24-10.

Littler had given Swinton the lead, which was extended after a Nev Morrison error by Chris Atkin, who also added five goals.

After a good Clare run, Ed Smith hit back, new recruit Lee Waterman goaling, and York’s man of the match, Greg Minikin, made it 12-10 after the break.

However, Littler’s quick double and a Ben White try extended the gap before Clare’s riposte. Andy Ackers made it 34-14 before Minikin created tries for Liam Cunningham and Josh Tonks, Ben Dent goaling the latter.
