Tightened defence was crucial – Agar

Hull coach Richard Agar praised his side's defensive efforts after his side produced a seven-try mauling of Castleford.

The Black and Whites joined Wigan at the top on eight points thanks to a 42-22 win over Terry Matterson's struggling side.

Scrum-half Richard Horne was the outstanding performer for the home side, scoring two tries and creating two more, but Agar felt the turning point was the way his side improved their defence after the interval, leading to a spell of four tries in 11 stunning minutes.

"At half time we felt we needed to lift our intensity a little bit, especially defensively," he said. "We were not quite where we needed to be defensively and we needed to get more of a mojo, and we did that.

"At half-time we thought that Castleford were lacking a little bit in the middle and we took advantage and made inroads at the middle of the park. I thought they had a right dig at us and they might be a little bit disappointed that the scoreboard blew up the way it did."
